Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, and French President Emmanuel Macron met at the Élysée Palace to discuss a broad range of collaborative efforts in key sectors such as trade, investment, cybersecurity, and defense. The dialogue also extended to regional issues involving neighboring countries like Cambodia and Myanmar, underlining their joint commitment to regional stability and development.
The discussions between Thailand and France placed a strong emphasis on expanding cooperation in industries poised for future growth. Both nations identified alternative energy, aerospace, aviation, smart power grids, and artificial intelligence infrastructure as areas ripe for increased collaboration. France further expressed its support for finalizing the Thailand-European Union free trade agreement within the year. This agreement, originally initiated in 2013 and later paused in 2014, resumed negotiations in 2023, with Thai officials highlighting the economic benefits it could bring to both countries.
In addition to economic cooperation, the two countries agreed to bolster their defense and cybersecurity ties. This includes collaborative efforts aimed at tackling cybercrime, online fraud, and broader transnational digital threats. On the regional front, Thailand reiterated its approach to resolving its border disputes with Cambodia through peaceful dialogue, adhering to international law frameworks. Thailand and France are also set to implement a Joint Action Plan to Strengthen the Thai-French Partnership from 2026 to 2028, laying the groundwork for their formal strategic alliance. During his visit, Anutin engaged with leading French corporations including Airbus, Imerys, EssilorLuxottica, IN Groupe, and Thales Group. These meetings aimed to attract further French investment into Thailand’s burgeoning high-tech and future-oriented industries.
French businesses have shown optimism about the investment climate in Thailand, with Airbus confirming its intention to expand its aviation and engineering operations in the country. This development underscores the mutual benefits both countries anticipate from their enhanced partnership, as they work towards deeper economic and technological integration.
